Vendôme and its medieval past...

In this town, we discover many eras, but the most spectacular period is without a doubt the Middle Ages: admire the current tourist office which bears witness to this!

🔎 A former guide to the castle told us of a strange legend that continues to circulate here... 2 spirits are said to haunt the fortress:

A white lady who is said to be in the Tour de Poitiers and the other would be Guillaume IV, Count of Poitiers, Duke of Aquitaine who was locked up for 3 long years in the year 1033 by Geoffroy Martel, son of Foulques III Nerra.

His body disappeared overnight without a trace, and the cause of his death remains a mystery... he even disappeared from parish registers long before his death.he even disappeared from parish registers long before his imprisonment, probably because of his repeated infidelities condemned by the Church...

He is said to have appeared on full-moon evenings along the castle battlements, singing this refrain:

🎶 "My name is Guillaume,

And this is my kingdom,

Oui je suis le fantôme,

Du château de Vendôme"... 🎶

A beautiful legend as we love them, isn't it?
